Trip to Cuba April 2006

Check out my pictures of my trip to Cuba in April 2006.

I took a Spanish immersion trip to Cuba this year for my vacation.
I left Edmonton on March 29 for Montreal. I spent the night there and caught a charter to Cuba on March 30 arriving mid-morning. My home base for the next three weeks was to be the Hotel Faro Luna, about 10 minutes from the city of Cienfuegos, and right on the "Bahia", on the Caribbean side of the island. There was 18 people enrolled in the Spanish immersion program, 3 couples and 12 single women. Each day we had class, or an excursion to see the culture, or both. It was a blast! I didn't want to come home but I did on April 20 (to Montreal) and I finally got back to Edmonton on April 21. Go to http://picasaweb.google.com/ladyoflorien001?pli=1

Review of the book: Oryx and Crake

I've finished reading Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. Wow! Excellent book! I will give it a 5 out of 5! It's genre would be speculative fiction. The main character, Snowman, has flashbacks to his childhood which would be a few years in our future. The type of world she describes is rapidly coming to pass and the book takes this vision and predicts the future of humanity. Considering that most of what is written about, such as pigoons, is already here, it's a frightening look at our future. It definitely makes you think.

This book is also the 2007 Grant MacEwan College book of the year. Margaret Atwood visited the college and gave a talk on her book, Oryx and Crake. She was extremely witty and the evening was well spent. I even got my book signed! Ms. Atwood has some very definite opinions on where our society is headed.
